Summer School in Greece

American College of Thessaloniki (ACT) in Greece
June 21 - July 21, 2008

Students have a wide selection of courses, all of which are taught in English. Participants enroll in 6 credits in areas such as history, philosophy, psychology, political science,
Greek, public relations, computer science,
and finance. Students live in one of two university-managed apartments with other students from around the world. The program fee includes tuition, orientation and field trips. Accommodation and airfare are extra.

Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece. Over 2300 years old, it is a blend of ancient and modern. Students are surrounded by parks, churches, shopping, museums, and Greek nightlife. The American College of Thessaloniki
(ACT) is located within one hour of some of Greece's most beautiful beaches, and a hike up Mt. Olympus is a popular side-trip for students. Thessaloniki is the ideal jumping-off point for further
European travel.

Business Option

A new business option has been added to the list of courses offered by the American College of Thessaloniki, ISU's partner in Greece. The course, Business in Greece and the European Union, was developed in conjunction with Professor Howard Van Auken in ISU's College of Business.

The new course will provide students with an introduction to business and entrepreneurship in Greece and the European Union and will integrate business, culture, and experience through:

  • Lectures about business/entrepreneurship in Greece and the European Union (e.g., how to do business in Greece and the EU as well as the history of the EU).
  • Excursions to local businesses to learn from business owners about how business is conducted in Greece.
  • Experiential assignments that require students to explore the local business environment.
  • Cultural activities and events.

Join students from Greece, other European countries, and other U.S. universities and learn about different perspectives on how business is conducted in international markets and a different interpretation of the impact of culture on how business in conducted around the world. The course will enable students to better understand business and culture in the international marketplace and is open to all students regardless of classification or major.  This course will likely meet an elective requirement as part of the entrepreneurial studies minor at Iowa State.

Students will also take one other course from the selection of summer course offerings for a total of 6 credit hours at ACT.
