Program
Students are divided into groups according to their skill level
as determined by a placement test administered during the first
week of the program. They are required to attend approximately
15 hours of class per week. Courses meet Monday – Friday
and include the following:
- French
language:
emphasizes practical communication
- Composition:
review of writing techniques and styles
- French
civilization:
introduction to French culture and politics
- History/Geography:
emphasis on Lyon and its surrounding area
All courses are taught in French.Students
from ISU and the U of I earn eight credits. Those from UNI earn
12 credits. Program credits may be applied toward a major or a
minor in French.
The program includes educational excursions in and
around Lyon in connection with the course in civilization and
local history. In addition, day excursions are organized to places
of interest accessible from the Program site. Program excursions
usually take place on Friday and/or Saturday.
In addition to French major/minor credit, students
from the University of Iowa can receive 3 s.h. of GEP Foreign
Civ & Culture credit as well as 3 s.h. of Area Studies credit
for the International Business Certificate. Additionally, coursework
can be used for International Studies majors with a European Studies
emphasis area.
