Global Ambassadors

The Iowa State University (ISU) Study Abroad Center hires a number of qualified candidates for part-time Global Ambassador positions. Study abroad returnees who are looking for an opportunity to share their experience, promote study abroad, and gain experience in a diverse and international office are encouraged to apply.

The position begins the first week of each semester and ends at the end of each semester. Rehire for a subsequent semester is possible and contingent upon review and re-application. Global Ambassadors must be available for work a minimum of ten hours per week.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead study abroad presentations, drawing on personal experience and following an outline
  • Advise students on study abroad options
  • Promote study abroad through special programs/events
  • Respond to students' specific questions regarding programs and procedures, etc.
  • Assist in the administration of specific study abroad programs as assigned
Help with office events, such as
  • Welcome Back Reception
  • Study Abroad Fair
  • Pre-departure Orientation Workshops
  • Study Abroad Center booths/tables at various fairs

Perform office duties as assigned, such as

  • Take passport/visa photos
  • Serve as front desk reception
  • Answer the telephone, route calls, and respond to inquiries
  • Print, fold, post, assemble and/or mail flyers promoting study abroad
  • Photocopy materials for office staff
  • Run various errands across campus
  • Other office duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Full-time ISU undergraduate student status
  • Study/work abroad participation in a program at the collegiate level that lasted at least one month

Required Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to share your experiences with others
  • Ability to work independently and without direct supervision
  • Ability to work as a member of a team

Preferred Skills:

  • Advising/mentoring experience
  • Graphic design experience (Adobe Illustrator)
  • Marketing/advertising experience
  • Preference is also given to applicants with a flexible schedule and the ability to work an occasional evening or weekend
